Monopoly Megaways
Monopoly Megaways
When I discovered that Big Time Gaming had bought the licence to create a Monopoly Megaways slot I was rather exhilarated! Monopoly is one of my all-time favourite board games. It’s pitched at those players who like plenty of Ways to Win. The Tahiti Gold slot is another game that does this rather well by the way.
The Basics
That dashing chap with the top hat and monocle is called Rich Uncle Pennybags, and he’s at the helm of all the Megaways action. As in all of BGT’s Megaways’ slots there are a massive 117,649 ways to win on offer here, but quite how you’ll expand them you’ll have to discover for yourselves – just roll the virtual dice (known as the ‘Start’ button) and get cracking! You’ll soon see why this is one of the most popular Scientific Games slots that has been launched.
The Graphics
The game is set on green city backdrop filled with skyscrapers, while your reels spin on top of the traditional Monopoly board. It’s all very familiar if you have spent a day or so passing GO in your car or with your dog and collecting your 200.
The attention to detail in the visuals is top notch; from the squares on the infamous board to the jazzy swing-band soundtrack. It’s a delight to look at! But what about the play? Well, see below.

Monopoly Megaways Game Play
The Monopoly Megaways slot has 6 reels, up to 7 rows and potentially 117640 ways to win. Even Treasure Heroes can’t deliver those kinds of numbers, they are somewhat off the scale wouldn’t you say?
The Megaways counter at the top of the reels will tell you how many you will play with on each spin. It’s a handy little feature.
Bets start from £/€/$ 0.10 up to 20.00 per spin, and wins are made by getting 3x or more matching icons on the reels from the left to right-hand side. Speaking of which, your reel icons are made up of Monopoly counters board game counters; the wee Scottie dog, the racing car, the top hat, and the battleship. What happened to the iron? It was never my favourite piece on the board to be honest.
Your lower value symbols in this slot are the 9 to A playing cards, while the Wild symbols is the multi-coloured ‘M’ icon. It will do the usual job of all Wilds to replace other reel symbols to make extra winning matches.
Land 6x of these and you’ll win a cash prize of 50x your original wager. Why, I don’t mind if I do!
Cascading Reels
Monopoly Megaways comes with cascading reels, which means that after any winning spin, symbols disappear and new icons drop into their place to hopefully make new wins. This mechanism continues until no more winning combos are created. It’s a popular feature nowadays that many of the newer slots have picked up on.
By Jove, this game has more under the bonnet than the Rise of Olympus slot and that is no mean feat.
The Board
On each winning reel spin, Rich Uncle Pennybags makes his way around the Monopoly board, but exactly where he lands will affect your game differently:
- If you land on the ‘Go’ space, your next spin will be opened up to the maximum number of Megaways reels.
- If you land on a train station, electricity company or waterworks the property will now be added to your cards and used later as spins or multipliers in the bonus feature. I’ve always liked the train stations, Marylebone has always been a favourite for some reason.
- If you land on a property card, each cascade drop will add a new house to that street.
- If you land on the Community Chest card, instead of picking up a card as you do in the board game, you will move to another random street and up to 4 houses will be added to it. A short-cut to riches hopefully!
- Finally, land on the handy ‘Chance’ card you’ll either be sent to a random property, given a Megaways spin or set off the Free Spins Bonus.
The Bonuses
Trigger the Free Spins round by accumulating 5x houses on any one street, or, by hitting the Chance card. You’ll now receive 8 Free Spins – however, you could be playing with many more if you’ve picked up stations along the way. Each of these will give you 1 extra spin, while the 2 utilities will increase your win multiplier by 1x for each of them.
Best (and most lucrative) of all, landing on a property during play will increase the multiplier by 1x again, while hitting the Chance square during the bonus round will award you another 5x spins.
The Monkey Verdict
This Monopoly Megaways slot game is like no other. A great reproduction of the very famous board game with a whopping 117,640 ways to win as the cherry on the cake! You can’t say fairer than that!
But will it pay out the Monkeys? Landing those stations and utilities is the key to raking in the wins, as you could be playing with 15 or more Spins with a x10 Multiplier. If you don’t collect these cards, the bonus feature could fall a bit flat.
