The Graphics
Our intrepid expedition starts with an intro film to get you acquainted with Gonzo and his quest – the fearsome fellow has stolen a treasure map that will lead him to mythical El Dorado.
Next, you’re presented with the reels that sit in front of a jungle scene (complete with Aztec pyramids in the background). At the side of the reels, you have Gonzo himself, who will occasionally treat you to dance when you manage to land a particularly big win.
Overall, this is a very nice-looking game and one that stands quite the test of time. We can only think of the Jungle Spirit slot (Call of the Wild) as anything in the same ballpark. Oh and maybe Asgardian Stones.
Gonzo’s Quest Slot Game Play
Gonzo’s Quest has 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 pay lines for you to spin with.
Your symbols on the reels are made up of intricate stone carvings in different colours: light blue, red, orange, purple, brown, green and dark blue (from lowest to highest in value).
The wild symbol is the question mark icon and will substitute for other symbols to create matching combinations. It will only land on reels 2, 3 and 4.
Your bonus symbol is the Golden Mask symbol that features a chap poking his tongue out (how very rude of him!)
Avalanche Symbols
Gonzo’s Quest has cascading reels (or avalanches as NetEnt call them). This means that for each winning combo you make, those winning symbols will explode and disappear to be replaced by brand new ones that drop into place from above.
Each new winning combination will also increase the win multiplier (this is displayed at the top of the reels. When a non-winning result appears, the multiplier will drop back down to x1 again and the symbols will stop exploding.
The Bonuses
Landing 3x or more of the Golden Mask Scatter symbols will trigger off the bonus feature. This will give you 10 free spins that are more like re-spins, and during these spins the multiplier ladder on top of the screen will triple in size.
Starting off x3 with the initial avalanche, it will go up to x15 with more than 4 consecutive free falls It’s also possible to re-trigger the bonus by landing more of the Golden Scatters.
